New Year’s Resolutions with Milkhouse Candles

We are almost through the first month of 2017. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions this year? Maybe you want to lose some weight, learn something new or just be healthier. At Milkhouse Candles & More, we decided this year we just want people to learn to relax. It’s so easy to get caught up in daily activities and become stressed by having too much to get done and not enough time to do it.

Research has shown the drawbacks of stress and lack of sleep. It directly affects your health in negative ways. It’s also been shown that taking breaks and finding ways to relax throughout the day will make you more productive.

A few things you can do throughout your day include pausing and taking deep breaths. While you’re at work or busy with your daily chores, remember to pause every once in awhile. Close your eyes for a minute, stretch or look out the window. Just a minute or two will relax your mind and help you refocus to finish the next task.

If you just got through a stressful situation like an upsetting phone call or busy commute, pause afterwards and take a few deep breaths. To aid with this relaxation technique, close your eyes and take deep breathes in and out. You can think of your favorite place or somewhere you enjoy like a beach or vacation spot. Focus on that for a few minutes. It will relieve the stress and help you calm down.

Here are some other ideas to help you relax when you have a little more time:

Walking releases endorphins to help you feel better. It also allows you to take in the scenery and get some fresh air.

Aerobic Exercise
Increase your heart rate with a higher intensity exercise. Again this will release feel-good endorphins and help you burn off any extra stress or anxiety. You can participate in a group class at a gym, go for a run, play a team sport or whatever you love to do! Find something you can enjoy whether alone or with others.

Yoga, tai chi and pilates are designed around relaxation and breathing techniques to help you de-stress.

Taking up a hobby
People with stressful jobs find it helpful to take up a hobby that allows them to switch their brains off from work. Anything can go here from knitting to horseback riding.

Burning candles

Taking a warm bath
